
Skid Steer certification provides trainees with a general understanding of the safe and efficient operation of a Skid Steer. When this course is completed the trainees will be able to will be able to identify specific health and safety hazards associated with operating a Skid Steer.
There are two segments to this training program which includes a classroom theory and practical evaluation. The trainees must complete both parts of the training in order to be certified as a skid steer operator.
- Review the legislation requirements.
- Outline the operator's responsibilities.
- We will have a group discussion on experiences or accidents, close calls someone might have had.
- What the consequences might be of the unsafe operation of a Skid Steer; Legal, Moral, Ethical, Social and Psychological.
- Review attachments available for Skid Steer and highlight differences.
- Pre-shift Inspections
- Stability triangle \ trapezoid
- Center of Gravity of the load & Center of Gravity of Skid Steers
- Capacity of Skid Steers, capacity plates (reading & understanding.)
- Specific hazards & controls when driving an Skid Steer.
- How to respond to an emergency situation involving a Skid Steer
- List specific driving rules when operating Skid Steers.
- Learner verification and review. There will be a 50 question test, questions will be true or false.
PLEASE NOTE: If your Skid Steer’s are propane powered “Certification” in propane cylinder exchange is included in this safety training program.
The in class theory of the course takes approximately 3 hours. As always the skid steer certification classes are conducted on-site and can be scheduled anytime to your company's needs.
PART 2: HANDS ON TRAINING

All skid steer operators completing the “driver operator evaluation” must have successfully completed “concepts of safe & efficient driving” training. Each operator will have to be tested in the safe and efficient use of the skid steer. Whenever it is possible for the company to do so, this will be done during production hours This allows us to evaluate the driver under natural conditions that he or she will be required to operate their Skid Steer. Upon passing both parts of the testing, participants will be “Certified” as Skid Steer Operators and issued a wallet sized card.

- Review physical characteristics of an on site propane tank.
- Complete overview of tank condition ( O-ring, collar, dating, soap solution check, etc.)
- All participants will change a propane tank on an Skid Steer, or propane heater (site specific) in a competent manner.

The average time to complete a “skid steer evaluation” is one hour, for experienced operators. It is suggestion that “new” operators how construction for a minimum of 4 hours prior to having their evaluation.
